D Magazine Best in D 2014!

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

For 7 years, our team has been working non-stop to help deliver state of the art medical and dermatologic care at our Frisco and Denton, Texas, locations.  Dr. Weisberg and the providers work tirelessly during the day with our excellent team of medical assistants, front office, billing specialists and practice manager to deliver effective and customized care to our thousands of patients who have visited us since we opened our doors.  After hours, Dr. Weisberg continues to excel and spend considerable time devising ways to improve care and efficiency, some of which are obvious to our patients, but others that happen behind to scenes to improve the way we deliver care.

It is with pride and joy that we announce that we have been selected as "Best in D" by D Magazine for 2014.  How do they come to this conclusion?  Great question!  They ask thousands of physicians the following question:

"Which doctors would you trust with the care of a loved one?"

The physicians, who are verified, are allowed to list up to 3 physicians in each category and we are honored to be picked for Dermatology!

We don't take this lightly.  It means we have lots of physicians who trust us to provide care for their patients.  Some of these physicians have been referring patients to us for 7 years, some who may have started more recently, and others who may have already visited us for their personal care or the care of a family member.  This immense trust that has been afforded to us by physicians (and patients) is our most precious gift along with our awesome staff.

Thank you north Texas.  You can rest assured we will continue to work to find ways to improve and become even better in the future.  We plan to be part of the community for a long time to come and believe this is just the beginning of a great journey solely afforded to us by the trust of our patients and our physicians.

Thank you!

Dr. Weisberg

Are you breaking out with acne?

Saturday, January 12, 2013

Acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States and affects 40 to 50 million Americans.  An estimated 85% of people will have acne at some point in their lives.  So what’s the cause of this highly prevalent problem?   There are 3 main factors: comedones + infection + inflammation.

Let me explain. Our face, chest, and back are covered in small hair follicles with attached oil-producing glands. Excess oil and dirt can build up and clog these hair follicle openings (or pores), forming little plugs called “comedones” which are commonly referred to as blackheads and whiteheads.  These comedones trap bacteria in the base of the hair follicles, leading to an infection.  This triggers immune cells to gather around the hair follicle to try to fight the infection and in the process creates inflammation, forming pus-filled pimples and deep painful cysts.  Squeezing a pimple can rupture the follicle, which leads to even more inflammation.  Some young women have acne that’s further driven by a 4th factor: hormones.  Clues to this include acne that flares badly with periods and acne predominantly located along the chin and jawline.

So what can you do to keep acne at bay?  Some simple steps include washing your face at least twice a day, using only “oil free” or “non-comedogenic” cosmetic products, and especially resisting the urge to pick at your skin, which can not only worsen inflammation but can lead to scarring.   Using over-the-counter products containing salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide can be helpful in clearing up mild acne.  However, for acne that becomes moderate to severe, it might be time to seek the expert help of a dermatologist.  He or she can examine your skin and prescribe medications specifically tailored to your needs that target all the causes of acne.  Comedones can be reduced and prevented by topical retinoids such as tretinoin, adapalene, or tazarotene.  Infection can be prevented with topical antibiotics such as clindamycin, erythromycin, dapsone, and benzoyl peroxideDeep inflammatory acne may require taking pills like doxycycline, and large inflamed cysts can be rapidly improved (before they cause a scar) with injections of steroid medication.  For women with hormonally-driven acne, we can often help with medicines like birth control pills and/or spironolactone.

What about people who have severe or treatment-resistant acne?  It might be time to consider isotretinoin, also known as Accutane.  This medicine is definitely a commitment: it has to be taken for several months and requires careful monitoring.  However, when it’s used properly and safely, it can be extremely effective at treating even the most severe acne.  For more information and personalized help, please call our office.

Did you know?

Saturday, August 25, 2012
Did you know that most adults and children still get too much sun exposure on a regular basis?  They do and it can lead to skin cancer down the road and early aging of the skin including fine lines and wrinkles.  Most of our patients know that we perform full skin checks to makes sure all of your spots and moles are not skin cancer, but did you know we do a lot more than that?

Did you know that we diagnose and treat rashes including psoriasis, eczema, allergic skin reactions, acne, warts, cysts and a lot of other conditions?  We do.

Did you know that we also help improve the look of the skin due to age and/or sun exposure?  We do.  We have techniques and treatments available that many other locations do not or cannot offer.  We can recommend preventative treatment, topical skin care lines, injectables, chemical peels, laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), among others.  Come in and mention your concern and we would be happy to discuss some of our best options.

Did you know that we now have 2 locations?  We do.  Our first location opened in 2007 and is located in Frisco on the southwest corner of Eldorado Parkway and Legacy Drive.  It's easy to find and convenient.  Our second location opened in 2011 and is located in Denton on W. Oak Street, just off of I-35E and across the street from Presbyterian Denton Hospital.  Come see us at either location.

Did you know that we are now taking new patients?  We are.  Summer is coming to an end and there is no better time than the present to give us a call and schedule an appointment.

See you soon,

Dr. Weisberg

4th of July

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

As we head into the holiday, I think back on my decision to become part of the community in Frisco, Denton and the surrounding areas and know that I could not have made a better decision.  Our patients search us out from all over, coming from Oklahoma, West Texas and south all the way to Austin.  We are thankful for each and every patient that has come to see us over the years and humbled by the sheer number.

What does this have to do with July 4th?  Showing and having pride in our country, being proud of what our country has accomplished over the years, is a big part of the 4th of July.  From the fireworks, to the BBQ, to the family and friends with whom we gather.  To me, it is a day to take pride in all of this.

I started our practice in December 2007 without a single patient and only one employee.  We now have 3 full-time providers and over a dozen employees in just 4 ½ short years.  We have been voted Best in Frisco by overwhelming margins by the community and have won Best of Business in Frisco rating by an independent auditor.  We owe all of this success to our hardworking staff and you, the patient, who have chosen us, over others, to provide you with quality dermatologic care.  I believe our patients take pride in telling their friends and family that they see us for their dermatology care and we take pride in delivering this care as effectively as we possibly can.

At Dermatology Consultants of Frisco (DCF) and Precision Dermatology, our team takes pride in taking care of our patients.  We believe in the team approach and understand it takes every member of the team to provide the highest-level of service. We believe each patient is special and we strive to provide him or her with the highest quality care possible.  Our patients are our friends, our family and our neighbors.  We are part of the community and we are proud of what our communities have accomplished over the years. Pride in our practice, our business, our patients and our community is what we offer.  Taking pride in our country is what brings us together on the 4th of July and it is also what brings together our patients and our practice.

It’s true, there are a lot of areas of society that one can be critical of, but July 4th is not the day to perseverate over the negatives. So, grab your sunblock, your friends and family, and enjoy everything you can about our country, the society we built as Americans, and our local communities.  We owe this to ourselves and those who came before us, just like our practice owes our success to our patients and our hardworking team.

Happy 4th of July,

New Treatment Option

Sunday, June 24, 2012

We are excited to announce a new treatment option that is now available to our patients.  It is called "Narrow Band UV-B" and is used for a multitude of conditions.

Do you have psoriasis? Vitiligo? Resistant hand eczema?  Mycoses fungoides?  These conditions and others can be controlled successfully using narrow band UV-B (or NBUVB).

What is it exactly?  NBUVB emits a narrow wavelength of light in the UV-B spectrum that has been shown to maximize improvement of many skin conditions while minimizing risks.  Treatments are quick and easy and are completed in the office setting with little or no discomfort.  Each treatment can last as little as 20 seconds or as long as 5-10 minutes, depending on the settings and the patient’s skin type.  Treatments are typically repeated 3 times a week (Mon-Wed-Fri), but alternate frequencies are approved in certain condition and situations.

Doc, isn’t a tanning bed or laying out at the pool the same thing?  The short answer is no.  Tanning beds have all sorts of harmful rays, which have been proven to cause skin cancer including increasing your risk of melanoma, the most deadly of skin cancers as well as cause photo-aging.  Getting significant amounts of natural sunlight can lead to the same risks of skin cancer and photo-aging.  What is photo-aging?  Photo-aging is the premature wrinkling and breakdown of skin due to excessive amounts of UV exposure.  Bottom line, photo-aging means you will look older and have more wrinkles than necessary.  NBUVB, however, limits these side effects by eliminating the “harmful” UV rays and only keeping a very narrow spectrum of UV-B, specifically the portion that is most helpful for certain skin conditions.

Our office has installed the latest equipment, which is armed with a higher level of safety than previous devices.  We have dedicated machines to treat only the hands or the feet (or both at the same time) as well as a dedicated machine to treat the entire body (or limited portions, as necessary).

Our patients already know we offer evidenced based recommendations using the latest evidence and treatment parameters.  Now, there is one more option.  Schedule a consultation today to find out more.

Look Younger Sooner

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

The kids are back in school and it is starting to cool off finally.  Over the summer, many of us have spent a lot of time taking care of our kids, going on vacations, and getting too much sun.  Now it is time to start concentrating a little more on ourselves.

You may have noticed a few new lines on your skin.  Many men and women might notice these lines between their eyebrows, on their forehead, or at the lateral edges of their eyes in the temple area.

These lines are movement induced.  Over time, thousands of contractions of the muscles below the skin ultimately lead to lines on the surface that are worsened each time the muscles are used.  Think of a piece of paper folded over dozens of times in the same crease.  But just like putting a book on the flat (and previously folded paper) will eventually smooth out the crease in the paper, using Botox®/Dysport® can help your skin do the same thing...smoothing out the lines that you never wanted.

Luckily, you can get Dysport®, your solution to wrinkles, at a discount for a limited time only.  Please visit our specials page and call us now for an appointment as it won't last long.  If you need further information between now and your appointment, please click here for more information on Dysport®.

Get rid of your lines today and prevent future lines at the same time! Get Dysport®.
