Psoriasis Diagnosis & Treatment

Psoriasis is a skin disorder that causes skin cells to build up, forming itchy scales and dry patches on the skin.

Psoriasis affects about 2% of the population and is thought to be caused by an immune response. Triggers can include infections, stress, and cold.

A psoriasis rash often presents as silvery-red plaques located on the elbows and knees. Psoriasis can be itchy and when scratched, can sometimes bleed.

In up to 20% of cases, psoriasis is associated with psoriatic arthritis and stiffness of the joints.

Psoriasis is treatable and controllable. Treatment typically starts with topical prescriptions but may progress to pills or injectables if warranted.
