Basal Cell Carcinoma Diagnosis & Treatment

Basal cell carcinomas are the most common type of skin cancer. At Dermatology Consultants of Frisco, we can help with an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan.

Basal cell carcinomas can have many different looks, but generally, they are pearly, red, eroded, bleeding, and/or ulcerated. They tend to appear in areas that are exposed to the sun but can occur anywhere on the skin.

Basal cell carcinomas typically grow slowly and rarely spread to distant sites in the body, but can become locally destructive and therefore require prompt diagnosis and treatment.

A biopsy is usually used to confirm the diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma and to remove (excise) the lesion; however, in some cases, other treatment options may be needed.

A patient with one skin cancer lesion has a higher risk of developing more lesions in the future. After diagnosing any skin cancer, frequent skin checks at one of our Dermatology Consultants of Frisco offices are highly recommended. We recommend that all patients have their skin checked at least once a year for new lesions and any changes.
