How do Laser and IPL work for hair removal?

Hair removal using laser or IPL works by targeting melanin (skin pigment) in the hair follicle and surrounding structures.

Laser or IPL hair removal is most effective on dark hair on lighter-skinned individuals; however, we can treat darker skin as well. Unfortunately, there is no treatment for white or gray hair removal at this time.

Do Laser and IPL hurt?

You may experience some mild discomfort during the session. Many patients and doctors compare the treatment to getting snapped with a rubber band. After your session, there may be some redness, and your skin may feel warm.

Most patients do not require numbing creams before the session, but it is available if needed.

How many treatments are required?

Each hair follicle has a different growth cycle. To effectively remove an area of hair, it generally takes 3-6 treatment sessions to target removal during the proper growth cycle. 

The time frame between each treatment varies (based on hair location). Your skincare specialist will review all of this with you during your consultation.
