What is Fraxel and How Does it Work?

Aging is a natural part of life, and over time, our skin starts to show the negative effects of aging through pigmentation/sun damage, acne scars, and wrinkles.

One way to help repair this skin damage is with Fraxel.

What is Fraxel?

Fraxel is a fractional laser treatment that uses light energy on targeted areas beneath the skin’s surface. This laser treatment works by creating microscopic damage to stimulate your skin’s natural collagen production, rejuvenating your skin to smooth out wrinkles and scars.

Fraxel helps with skin resurfacing, fine lines and wrinkles, surface scarring, pigmentation, sun damage, and actinic keratosis. It can help with the face, neck, chest, shoulders, and back.

How Does it Work?

The fractional laser is passed over the face several times, penetrating the top skin layers. The Fraxel light energy stimulates collagen and resurfaces the top layers of the skin. The skin’s natural rejuvenation process starts to smooth out wrinkles and scars. The treatments can take anywhere from 15-45 minutes, but the whole process is about 2 hours. Most patients experience a “sunburn” feeling immediately following the treatment. Bags of ice applied to the face can help for the first few hours after the procedure. The recovery time will require a few days off of work and activities to heal.

Typically patients can require 3-6 treatments to get the maximum results desired. As the patient heals, results begin to show, usually within 1-3 weeks and the collagen can continue to develop 3-6 months after the last treatment.
